When it comes to interns, we’ve been incredibly fortunate to be able to find some of the best and brightest from around the world. Although they are temporary, they become a part of the epic story of Tresata and make lasting impressions in their own unique ways. Our “Intern Update” series introduces these characters and recaps a bit of what they’ve been up to this summer…

Name: Vinoth Sadagopan

School: UNCC Computer Science Master’s Candidate

Year: December 2015

What motivated you to work at Tresata this summer?

In the month of January, I was on a hunting spree for an internship opportunity for summer 2015. I came to know about Tresata from my school (UNCC). After reviewing their website, I felt this company might be my right place to start my career.

When I received interview call from Brittany, Tresata’s Director of Talent, I was completely excited. Srini, another intern and my roommate, and myself were selected from a large group of us to join the team.

My first day was June 1st, and the whole team took us out for lunch. This made the interns feel comfortable and get acquainted with other people working in the office.  I thought this was really cool.

What was your main project/focus this summer?

The goal of my internship was to develop a front-end web application for a new business application.  In my first two weeks, I did some training with Angular Mongo Node and Express JS and made some mini projects to get familiarized with these technologies. Our project kick-started in third week of my tenure.  It was a roller coaster ride and I owe a big thanks to Jayesh (my mentor and Tresata’s Director of Product Development) who guided and encouraged me throughout this ride.

We were team of three for this project and, apart from development, we learned to adapt ourselves to agile software process. We also learned few team-building skills, like time management and division of work. These are the main skills every student interested in a career in software should possess.

Besides your projects, what was your favorite part of your internship this summer?

Apart from the projects, I also had lots of fun here. Lunch and Learns are my all time favorite at Tresata (the FREE food from the company doesn’t hurt).

Fridays are exciting anyway because its last day of the week, but Tresata adds an extra dose of excitement through the lunch and learns.

As a side note: I am a voracious foodie, but had never tried any cuisine other than Indian. I never knew that there are so many varieties of food to try out.

Something else that I loved about the office was the ping pong table.  Although I am bad at ping pong, playing it was always fun and was a nice way to break up the day.

Writer’s update: Vinoth has also joined the Tresata team again this Fall as a part of our co-op program. We’re looking forward to continuing to work with him.
